CUSTOM TYPEFACE DESIGN
In this custom typeface design project, I have attempted to depict the rich textile traditions of Himachal Pradesh, a region known for its stunning weaves, vibrant colors, and intricate patterns. My objective is to capture the essence of Himachali textiles and translate them into a unique, culturally resonant typeface.
I have studied the geometric motifs, decorative elements, and regional symbolism that are intrinsic to these textiles. Through this exploration, I extracted key design elements that will serve as the foundation for my custom typeface.
The curves, lines, and strokes are a visual tapestry, weaving together the aesthetics of the textiles and the art of typography.
This part is the beginning of my exploration where i have derived motifs from the Kullu Shawls, so that they can be used as the core of the design.
These were some of the initial explorations done in ink on paper.
These were some of the pre existing fonts I had studied which matched the concept.
The first idea has and ornamented serif like that in the Kullu Shawl itself.
The first idea has negative space like that in the Kullu Shawl itself.
The first idea has negative space and imitation of the motifs seen like that in the Kullu Shawl itself.
